Smith County distribution centers in Chapel Hill, Lindale for those impacted by storm damage to close after Friday service
CHAPEL HILL, Texas — Two distribution centers for people impacted by the severe storms will be open until 7 p.m. Thursday in Lindale and Chapel Hill. Smith County officials opened up the centers to offer resources to those in need on Wednesday. The locations are Chapel Hill High School, located at 13172 Texas Highway 64 East in Tyler, and First Baptist Church, located at 103 E. Van Street in Lindale.
Quitman church welcomes community
Despite big puddles in the parking lot and looming gray skies above, the turnout for the Faith Baptist Church of Quitman block party was considerable Saturday. Shouts of joy, chattering and Christian music came from all quarters at the block party, which was situated in Faith Baptist’s sizeable parking lot. The event, which has been held for seven years according to FBC pastor Mike Midkiff, was attended by over 200 people and was completely free for attendees.

Some roads around the region remain closed due to flooding
Around the region, some area roadways are closed due to high water. In Caddo Mills, the Interstate 30 service roads are flooded. Elsewhere in Hunt County, south of Royse City, FM 548 between Royse City and Blackland is flooded. FM 36 is closed between the intersections with FM 1564 and FM 2510. And FM 1565 is closed between Union Valley and Whitehead. And at Lake Tawakoni south of Hawk Cove, the FM 751 causeway is open as of this report, however, travel is discouraged due to high water.
