DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — The first sea turtle nest of the year was spotted in the Outer Banks over the weekend.

According to a Facebook post by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, park biologists found the Loggerhead nest near Frisco on Saturday, May 11.

A resource protection area now surrounds the nest. This image taken by the National Park Service shows the sea turtle tracks.

Frisco is where a turtle broke records by laying a nest in December last year for the first time in state history. Before that the latest recorded laying was Halloween 2020.

You can r eport any sea turtle sightings ((nesting, live, cold-stunned, dead, tangled, etc.) by calling 252-216-6892.
