The Fremont City Schools Board of Education hired its next superintendent, and it is a familiar face.

After interviewing multiple candidates, the board voted to hire Denice Hirt, the current assistant superintendent.

Hirt is no stranger to Fremont City Schools. A native of the Fremont area, she has been an educator within the district for 28 years. She has held various positions, including teacher, principal, director and assistant superintendent.

Hirt excited about opportunities ahead for district

“I am very excited about the opportunities that lie ahead," she said as she prepares to assume her new position at the start of the 2024-25 school year.

She will replace Jon Detwiler who will retire at the end of the school year.

"I am also grateful for the chance to lead the district and I’m eager to build on the solid foundation established by my predecessors,” Hirt said.

The board expressed confidence in Hirt's ability to lead Fremont City Schools to new heights in education and childcare, in a press release. Members noted they believe her energy and knowledge will be instrumental in taking the district to the next level.

“I’ve acknowledged the district's high standing, but also recognized the importance of continuous improvement, and I am committed to academic excellence, especially in light of the challenges posed,” Hirt said.

School board foresees Hirt building relationships

One of Hirt's strengths is the ability to build relationships within the district and the community. As a lifelong resident of Fremont, she is deeply connected to the area and its people. Hirt is known for being visible and approachable, and she plans to continue this level of engagement in her new role.

She values the input and perspectives of all stakeholders and is committed to working collaboratively towards enhancing education in Fremont City Schools.
