Local Police departments could merge into one

There's talk of more police force consolidation in the region.

The Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department patrols the areas of Gilpin, Freeport and Ford City in Armstrong County.

Now, there’s talk that Kiski Township could fold its police force into the Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department as well.

The Trib reports a meeting will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Kiski Township municipal building, where residents will have a chance to ask questions and give their input.

Kiski township would save at least $200,000 if the move is made, and the Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department would increase to 22 officers.

Right now, Kiski Township employs four full time officers and three part timers.
