Fredonia city officials share storm cleanup tips

FREDONIA, Kan. (KOAM) -- Communities around the 4-States are working to clean up after the storms this past weekend.

According to the City of Fredonia's Facebook page, the heavy rain and water surges washed-out alleyways and scattered rock debris across the town.

City officials are asking residents to take proactive steps in assessing their properties and gearing up for future waves of weather.

Tips to protect property from heavy rain

• Clear gutters and drains
  • Ensure gutters and drains are free of debris to allow proper water flow away from your home.
• Seal windows and doors
• Check for any leaks or gaps in window frames and doorways, sealing them to prevent water infiltration.
• Seek higher ground
  • If you encounter flooded roads while walking, find alternate routes or wait for water to recede before proceeding.

The City says reminds residents when conditions are not ideal to stay home, and stay safe.
