    Prep roundup: Fowlerville's Tori Briggs hits 2 homers in each end of twin bill — again

    For the second time in her Fowlerville softball career, senior Tori Briggs hit two home runs in both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday in a 12-2, 11-3 sweep of St. Johns.

    Briggs broke onto the scene as a freshman on May 13, 2021 when she hit two homers in each game of a sweep against Lansing Catholic.

    The Central Michigan University signee has seven homers this season to lead Livingston County and 23 for her career.

    For the doubleheader, Briggs was 7-for-7 to raise her batting average to .579 and drove in 10 runs to give her 26 runs batted in this season. She had two doubles and scored six runs.

    Briggs also pitched in both games. She went all five innings in the opener, striking out eight and allowing three hits. She pitched 5⅔ innings of shutout relief in the nightcap, striking out eight and giving up three hits.

    Tommi Kleinschmidt was 5-for-8 and McKenna Maybee 4-for-7 for the Gladiators.

    Baseball

    Fowlerville 11, St. Johns 6

    St. Johns 7, Fowlerville 5

    Fowlerville’s Mikey Hatfield went 8-for-8 in the doubleheader, driving in two runs and scoring three. Hatfield came into the day hitting .222, but left with a .462 average.

    Braylon Charboneau had two doubles and two RBIs, while Griffin Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the first game. Brendan Ray went 3-for-4 in the nightcap.

    Boys track and field

    Plymouth 67, Hartland 60

    Hartland set school records in the 800-meter and 400 relays, while senior Cameron Cheetam lowered his 200-meter mark.

    The 800 relay team of Evan Bryan, Nolan Bell, Jack Lansing and Cheetam won in 1 minute, 31.56 seconds. That broke the mark of 1:31.84 set in 1991 by Paul Edwards, Kurt Davenport, Ryan Gutridge and Jonathan Hoffman).

    Cameron Campbell, Cheetam, Logan Bergkoetter and Lansing then set the school mark in the 400 relay with a time of 43.74 seconds. They eclipsed the mark of 43.84 set by Jason Allsworth, Mark Boratynski, Josh Duggan and Brandon Gigliotti in 2012.

    Cheetam also dropped his school 200 record to 21.83. He won the 100 in 10.87.

    Brighton 99, Salem 38

    Brighton’s Lawrence Wells and Sam Meriweather each won an individual race and were on the winning 400 and 800 relays.

    Wells won the 100 in 11.38 and Meriweather won long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 11.5 inches. Luke Campbell won the 3,200 in 9:41.67 and was on the Bulldogs’ first-place 3,200 relay.

    Novi 99, Howell 38

    Howell’s Bobby Kanka won shot put at 46-11 and discus at 147-11. Noah Thames cleared 13-3 to win pole vault for the Highlanders.

    Haslett 81, Fowlerville 56

    Fowlerville senior Jacob Esch won shot put at 45-5.5 and discus at 142-2.

    MIAC jamboree

    Charyl Stockwell senior Owen Carlson won the 100 in 12.09, the 110 hurdles in 16.94 and was second in the 300 hurdles in 45.59. The Sentinels were fifth out of six teams.

    Girls track and field

    Hartland 64, Plymouth 55

    Hartland sophomore Elliana Neuer won the 1,600 in 5:38.1, took second in the 800 and was on the winning 3,200 relay team.

    Salem 98, Brighton 39

    Brighton’s only individual victories were in the longest events, with Gabrielle Bolitho winning the 800 in 2:23.08, Carrigan Eberly the 1,600 in 5:12.47 and Nikki Carothers the 3,200 in 11:24.53. All three were on the first-place 3,200 relay team.

    Novi 98, Howell 39

    Howell’s only individual victory came from Rori Gregory in high jump with a leap of 4-8.

    Fowlerville 90, Haslett 47

    Fowlerville’s Delaney Richardson and Leah Clark each won two individual events and a relay.

    Richardson won the 1,600 in 5:43.82 and the 3,200 in 12:42.08. Clark won the 100 hurdles in 19.92 and the 300 hurdles in 57.23.

    MIAC jamboree

    Charyl Stockwell freshman Bailey Yates won both hurdles and took second in high jump. Becka Lethorn won pole vault at 8 feet for the Sentinels, who were second out of five teams.

    Golf

    Howell 152, Novi 157

    Howell’s Luke Downing tied Novi’s Harshan Juttu took first with a 37.

    Derek Kantola and Colin Satterley of Howell tied for third with 38s, while Howell’s Zach Spencer tied for fifth with a 39.

    Brighton 147, Salem 155

    Brighton’s Mitchell Stoll and Riley Morton tied for second with 36s. Jackson Frelich shot 37 and Carson Butler 38 to complete the Bulldogs’ score.

    Hartland 156, Canton 173

    Hartland swept the first three places, with Michael Maurin shooting 36, Keller King 38 and Aidan Oake 40. Brady Betteley was fifth with a 42 for the Eagles.

    Olivia Sebestyen scored three goals for Brighton (6-4-2).

    Maya Bjedov, Brynn Bobby, Addison Elliott, Addison Prain and Ella Vandemergel scored the other goals.

    Boys lacrosse

    Pinckney 10, Dexter 9 (2 OT)

    Pinckney senior Alex Rau scored his third goal of the game to win the game in the second overtime.

    Jayden Miller had four goals for the Pirates, including a goal with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Levi Podhola scored twice for Pinckney.
