FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- Fort Worth Police say six people, including children, were hurt in a drive-by shooting at an apartment complex on Las Vegas Trail Wednesday night. Police say the victims range in age from three to 19.

"It makes me angry. I am mad. I am pissed off," says Police Chief Neil Noakes. "There's absolutely no reason anybody should be conducting themselves in such a violent, careless, heartless way that children should be shot. Unfortunately, that's what we're dealing with is someone chose to do something that stupid."

Of the six people who were shot, five went to the hospital. At least one person was in critical condition. The sixth person was treated at the scene.

Noakes says police had not made any arrests or identified suspects Wednesday night. He says they are also searching for a motive.

"Obviously, we're going to conduct a very thorough investigation, make sure we don't leave any stone unturned and do everything we possibly can to bring the people responsible to justice," he says.

Thursday morning, people were walking their dogs and school crossing guards were helping kids cross Las Vegas Trail. The apartment complex is in the same neighborhood as Western Hills Elementary School.

Fort Worth ISD says it sent an email to parents and staff at Western Hills telling them "our school is committed to supporting all students who may be affected by the incident."

The district says its counseling staff is available to help any student in need, saying they urge parents to have open conversations, listen to their kids' feelings and reach out to the district if they feel their child may need extra support.

"At Western Hills High School, we stand united as a community, dedicated to providing assistance and support to our students, staff, and all those impacted by this incident," the district wrote in an email.
