Fort Meade leaders say that too many properties are encumbered by fines or liens that prevent owners from selling them, blocking prospective new residents or businesses. That is why the city staff has proposed a one-year amnesty program for fines and liens generated from code-enforcement violations. The proposal seeks to make it easier for owners to bring their properties into compliance with city codes.
Poinciana News — Poinciana getting new Sheriff’s substation; new pool hours
On May 7, Polk County Commissioners approved a contract for construction of a new Sheriff’s office substation in Poinciana. The station will be built at 9530 Marigold Ave., less than a mile north of Lake Hatchineha Road This station is expected to serve the anticipated growth in the southern end of Poinciana. The building will be over 21,500 square feet and contain a community room, office space, interview rooms, holding cells, a sally port and fleet maintenance. Currently it takes up to 45 minutes to drive to the nearest Polk Sheriff’s office district station.

FORT MEADE, Fla. - A house in Fort Meade was destroyed after a fire on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials. Firefighters say Polk County Fire Rescue and the Fort Meade Fire Department were sent to the home on U.S. 98 East shortly after 1 p.m. According to crews, the single-story home was engulfed in flames.
