Freshwater fishing: Big bass are elusive in Polk County right now. But quantity is high
1. In Lakeland, at Saddle Creek bluegill are biting in the pits using minnows. Black-and-blue trick worms have been working for bass. At Tenoroc on Lake B, medium shiners have been the go-to bait for bass. Specks have been hitting grass shrimp on Picnic Lake. On lakes Parker and Hollingsworth, night fishing has been good for bluegill on crickets and grass shrimp, reports Phillips Bait and Tackle (863-666-2248).
Culver’s Franchise Eyeing Wauchula
A restaurant group operating nearly 100 Culver’s franchises across five states has identified a piece of property in Wauchula potentially to open another location. S & L Properties LLC submitted a non-binding letter of intent to the Hardee County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) for the purchase of a 3.58-acre parcel between the north and southbound lanes of U.S. 17 in Wauchula for $1.7 million.

SFSC Performing Arts Hosts Free Puppet-Making Workshops, Marionette Shows
South Florida State College (SFSC) Performing Arts presented three free puppet-making workshops at the Avon Park Library, the Sebring Library, and the Hardee County Library. Funded with grants from South Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, the workshops were led by arts-in-education specialist, Hollie Rubin, who has performed and toured with Bits ‘N Pieces Puppet Theatre since 1977.
