( WJET/WFXP ) – A Florida man was sentenced in a Pennsylvania federal court and will now owe over $97 million in restitution fees.

First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced on Tuesday that 59-year-old Daniel Hurt of Fort Lauderdale, Florida was sentenced to 120 months of imprisonment for conspiring to commit health care fraud and conspiring to pay and receive unlawful kickbacks.

Along with his imprisonment, Hurt was ordered to pay more than $97 million in restitution and forfeit more than $30 million of the proceeds from the sale of a yacht.

According to information provided to the court, Hurt engaged in three separate healthcare fraud and illegal kickback schemes.

Hurt’s first scheme involved TRICARE and CHAMPVA, two healthcare programs meant to serve current and previous military personnel. TRICARE lost more than $18 million and CHAMPVA lost more than $450,000. Hurt was initially indicted in Florida but his case was transferred to Pennsylvania for sentencing.

Hurt later engaged in a scheme that involved the payment of illegal kickbacks related to cancer genomic testing, where Medicare suffered a loss of more than $25 million.
