Fort Fairfield Middle/High Teacher named 2024 County Teacher of the Year
FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine (WAGM) - Sixteen Maine teachers were announced as 2024 County Teachers of the Year Thursday at a ceremony in the Hall of Flags at the Maine State Capitol during Teacher Appreciation Week. Governor Janet Mills joined Maine Department of Education Commissioner Pender Makin, Educate Maine Executive Director Jason Judd, State Board of Education Chair Fern Desjardins, 2024 Maine Teacher of the Year Joshua Chard, and Maine County and State Teachers of the Year Association Co-President Hillary Bellefeur to announce and honor the new class of County Teachers of the Year.

After an okay weekend with some sunshine, along with cloud cover during the afternoon hours, more cloud cover is lingering across the region this morning. This is resulting in a gloomy start to the day, with more sunshine eventually expected in the forecast as high pressure builds over the northeast today. A few fair weather clouds will return once again during the afternoon hours, leaving us with a gloomier end to the day. Clouds and shower chances return late tonight, with on and off showers in the forecast going into tomorrow.
Caribou woman serving in prison for killing her newborn in 1985 appeals sentence
A Caribou woman sentenced for manslaughter last year in the death of her newborn nearly 40 years ago is appealing her sentence to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Rene Cloukey Honored For 40 Years of Special Olympics Support
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Our own Rene Cloukey was honored during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Special Olympics held in Presque Isle on Friday. Rene was recognized for his Cloukey Charity Challenge golf tournament, which will celebrate it’s 35th and final year this summer. Cloukey was presented with a trophy on behalf of Special Olympics Maine. Rene was also presented with a custom golf bag bearing the Special Olympics logo by the Aroostook County Area Management Team before leading the Olympians in the Special Olympics Oath.
Graedon King Game Report: vs Southern Aroostook
Graedon King turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. As if that's not impressive enough, the pitching appearance was his third in a row with less than two walks allowed. For the year, King has been strong no matter where he plays. On the mound, he has an ERA of 2.07 over 23.7 innings pitched. Meanwhile, at bat he has slashed 0.381/0.581/0.762 with 13 runs and just as many RBI.
Wardens Gather for Inland, Fisheries & Wildlife Appreciation Dinner
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The Presque Isle Fish and Game Club hosted the annual Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Appreciation Dinner Wednesday night. Game wardens from all across Aroostook County attended this dinner for some hot food and recognition for all the work they do. Karri Triplett has the story.
