Matthew Martinez poised to win reelection in CO House District 62
Democratic incumbent Rep. Matthew Martinez was poised to defeat Republican challenger Steven Rodriguez with more than 58% of the vote in Colorado House District 62 as of Nov. 4. Martinez told the Chieftain he was glad that residents of his district "got out and voted." He said he will continue to make sure that Southern Colorado has "a seat at the table" and that state budget cuts do not harm his district. "I'm honored and humbled by the continued trust and confidence of the people in the district," Martinez said on Wednesday morning. "I'm ready to keep fighting for Southern Colorado." Rodriguez told the Chieftain late Tuesday night that he was not surprised by the results of his race, which he said was "an uphill battle." However, he said he was shocked by how Republicans were performing statewide. "We're getting crushed," he said. Colorado House District 62 covers territory in Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Huerfano, Mineral, Pueblo, Rio Grande and Saguache counties. The East Side, Bessemer, downtown Pueblo and Salt Creek are among the Pueblo neighborhoods included in the district. Prior to election night, Martinez said his priorities included continued support for agriculture, improvements to the state's education systems and affordability.

Retiring On Social Security Alone Is Actually Possible In This Affordable Colorado City
Let’s be honest about something: the phrase “retire comfortably in Colorado” has started to feel like a punchline. Denver’s housing market has made national headlines for all the wrong reasons, mountain towns have priced out the people who actually work in them, and the general vibe around Colorado retirement planning has become one of resigned acceptance that it’s simply not going to happen.
