MILTON — After roughly an inch and a half of rain fell Tuesday, Oak Ridge Golf Course was softened and ripe for scoring on Wednesday.

Fort Atkinson’s boys golf team shot a season-low score for the second tournament in a row, firing a 294 to finish fourth at the final Badger Large mini meet.

Fort junior Mason Burke shot 2-under 68, sharing medalist honors with Milton senior Brett Wieland and DeForest junior Lincoln Hottmann. Burke made four birdies (hole Nos. 1, 5, 7 and 11) against just two bogies.

“Mason was playing from the fairway pretty much all round and hit a ton of greens,” Fort boys golf coach Mason Kent said. “A lot of his putts had chances to go in for maybe an additional few birdies.”

Junior Kellan Jacobson shot 74 and took 12th for the Blackhawks, who easily surpassed the round of 306 they recorded Saturday at Janesville Riverside Golf Course. Jacobson birdied the par-5 11th and the par-4 17th holes.

“Kellan has really turned the corner, found some comfort in his swing and is really building consistency,” Kent said. “His putting inside five feet is as good as anybody.”

Junior Jack Kammer added a 75, tying for 13th. He birdied the par-5 first, par-3 second and par-4 10th holes.

“Jack had a great round despite a tough stretch of four holes,” Kent said. “He has done a much better job of keeping composure and building trust in himself and his game.”

Junior Caleb Enger shot 77 to round out Fort’s tally.

“Caleb came out of the gates a little slow, but he was able to par holes No. 6 through No. 18 with the exception of a double on No. 13,” Kent said. “He has been getting better and better throughout the season. Caleb’s effort and hard work is paying off.”

Senior Ethan Brown’s 79 was not counted.

“Ethan is an all-around fighter,” Kent said. “He just grinds away and finds a way to keep battling. He is a great player and a phenomenal teammate.”

Milton shot three rounds of 71 or better, carding 286 (just six over par collectively) en route to holding off DeForest (289) for the team title.

Fort turns its attention to the Badger Large Conference meet, which will be played at Door Creek Golf Course on Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.

Team scores: Milton 286, DeForest 289, Waunakee 292, Fort Atkinson 294, Monona Grove 300, Oregon 324, Beaver Dam 326, Watertown 345.
