SUN PRAIRIE — Sun Prairie West scored nine times in the first inning, charging past visiting Fort Atkinson 11-2 in nonconference baseball on Saturday.

The Wolves (6-8) sent 14 hitters to the dish in the opening frame, taking full advantage of six walks and four hit batsmen to hang a crooked number despite only having one base knock, a single by Caden Updike.

Fort managed just three hits against a trio of Sun Prairie West pitchers. Ben Ketelsen started, tossing three no-hit innings with eight strikeouts to earn the decision.

Starter Jackson Leibman did not record an out in the first inning for the Blackhawks, surrendering six earned runs in the loss.

Leading hitters — FA: Schrader (2B); SPW: Pederson (2B).

    Pitching (ip-h-r-er-bb-so) — FA: Leibman L; 0.0-0-6-6-3-0, Ketterhagen 0.1-1-3-3-3-0, Byrnes 4.2-1-1-1-1-2, Block 1-1-1-0-1-1; SPW: Ketelsen W; 3-0-0-0-1-8, Holland 2-3-2-2-1-2, Wambach 2-0-0-0-2-4.

FRIDAY’S RESULTBEAVER DAM — Jeff Freund pitched a six-hitter with seven strikeouts and Beaver Dam completed a sweep of visiting Fort Atkinson with a 4-1 victory on Friday in Badger Large play.

Freund doubled for the first of his two hits to lead off the first inning and scored on Eli Bryant’s sacrifice fly. Fort tied it in the second with Trent Wilson singling with one away, taking second on Cam Haagensen’s single before coming around on a two-out base knock by Alexis Martinez, who was 2-for-3.

Fort produced one base runner in each of the final five frames, but only got one man in scoring position. The Blackhawks (5-12, 3-7 in conference) did not have an extra-base hit.

The Golden Beavers — on Jake Julka’s two-out RBI single — took the lead for good in the fourth, 2-1. In the fifth, Bryant singled with two outs, reached third on Zach Schave’s double before scoring on a wild pitch. Schave later came across for the final margin.

Wilson started and allowed two earned on four hits in four frames in the loss. Gavin Kanters gave up two earned on two hits in two frames.

“This was a tough loss on the road,” Fort baseball coach Andy Schwantes said. “We had a lot of chances early to get more going offensively, but we keep taking way too many strikes and haven’t been aggressive enough at the plate.

“Trent and Gavin did their job on the mound. We had a few plays defensively we could have made that would have changed momentum a little, but offensively we didn’t play our style the way we could have.”
