Two Fond du Lac School District elementary schools will have new principals for the 2024-25 school year

FOND DU LAC — Two Fond du Lac School District elementary schools will welcome new principals next school year.

Chegwin Elementary School's Teacher on Special Assignment Melanie Steinbarth has been promoted to the school's principal, effective Aug. 8.

She has more than 10 years of teaching experience, starting as a second-grade teacher in New Holstein. In 2005, she joined the Fond du Lac School District and taught first and second grades at Chegwin until 2020. She then briefly taught at Lakeshore Elementary School and became its TOSA before returning to Chegwin.

Steinbarth also holds a master's degree in reading education from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

"Her proven leadership and commitment to excellence will continue to propel Chegwin forward," Superintendent Jeff Fleig said in a news release. "We are confident that her passion and deep roots in the community will bring about a vibrant era of learning and growth."

Coming from the Madison Metropolitan School District, Cathy Prozanski will be Roberts Elementary School's new principal, also effective Aug. 8.

She started her career in education in 1988, and had been an elementary school principal in Madison since 2018. Previously, she has also been assistant principal and Elementary and Secondary Education Act coordinator in Mauston School District, principal at Brillion Elementary School in Calumet County, and principal and supervisor of preschool programming at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Wausau.

"I am honored and excited to be welcomed into the Fond du Lac School District and the Roberts School community," she said in the release. "I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of the students."
