Fond du Lac police investigating after residents report finding racist materials in their yards

By Daphne Lemke, Fond du Lac Reporter,

FOND DU LAC — If you discovered pamphlets in your yard in Fond du Lac these last few weeks, you're not the only one.

Readers have submitted tips to The Reporter after discovering packets of documents containing "White Lives Matter" and "Keep Wisconsin White" messaging that appeared on their properties and surrounding properties overnight.

Some of the days residents report finding the packets were March 31, April 1 and April 9.

Fond du Lac Police Department received complaints about the pamphlets, as well as stickers on roadway signs containing the same type of messaging, Assistant Chief of Operations Scott Krause said.

"While we take First Amendment rights very seriously, we will not allow individuals to litter or deface city/state property in the process of exercising those rights," he told The Reporter. "We would ask the community to provide any additional information that they can regarding this investigation and appreciate the assistance we have obtained from the community thus far."

Concerned community members have helped the department identify a vehicle officials believe is at least partly involved in distributing the material, and the department is in the process of attempting to identify those responsible.
