Say goodbye to these 8 Reno-Sparks food and drink places
Several restaurants have gone to the great kitchen in the sky — or are ready to cross the pearly gates — as eight food and drink spots in Reno-Sparks join the latest list of closures. The places run the gamut from a longtime downtown breakfast joint to a well-known coffee brand that was barely open for a year. One even lets patrons drink and throw sharp objects. Seriously. Another is a chain that’s part of a string of closures making news nationwide. So which food and drink places will locals be bidding “au revoir” to? Here is the latest rundown of restaurant closures for Reno-Sparks. Outback Steakhouse, 3645 S. Virginia St., Reno Located just north of the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa parking lot, the Reno Outback Steakhouse is one of several casualties arising from the bankruptcy of a major franchisee for the national chain. Reno's Outback Steakhouse was one of several stores mentioned in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filed by Cerca Trova Restaurant Group Holdings Inc., which also does business as Out West Restaurant Group, on Monday, Nov. 2, in a Delaware court. Outback parent company Bloomin’ Brands has since stepped in to acquire 61 restaurants from Out West for

The Salted Caramel Apple Pies At This Reno Bakery Are A Nevada Fall Treat Worth Trying
A whole apple pie gets finished with handmade salted caramel sauce, and it also comes in a 4-inch size called a Cutie Pie. That name alone makes me want one. The apples get roasted with warm spices before they ever meet the crust. Then everything goes into a flaky double crust.

This Nevada Bakery Makes Pastries The Old-School Way, From Cannoli To Freshly Baked Bread
An Austrian bakery once filled this courtyard space with pastries. Then a family with Italian roots took over in June 2022. Now the case holds cannoli, ricotta cookies, and pistachio cake. Cream puffs shaped like swans sit beside bright lemon tarts. Would you walk past a tray like that without...

People Drive From All Over Nevada For The Chili Verde At This Family-Run Mexican Spot In Reno
Some Reno restaurants come and go faster than a winter storm over the Sierra. One family-run Mexican kitchen in Midtown has stayed put for decades, and some families have been eating there for 35 years. Its pork chile verde is a big reason the parking lot stays full and the...

A Little Taste Of Europe Awaits At This Charming Reno, Nevada Restaurant
The menu at this French bistro changes every single day. That means the dish you fall for tonight might vanish by tomorrow, which feels both thrilling and a little rude. The whole place lives inside a converted brick bungalow. There are timber floors, white linen tablecloths, and mismatched antique mirrors on the walls. In warm weather, a terrace looks out over a river.

A Nevada Asian Market Combining Homemade Korean Food With Global Groceries
Fresh kimchi made in-house sits a few aisles away from shrimp crackers, shabu meats, and an entire wall of noodles. That combo alone got my attention. I think a grocery run should feel this exciting more often. The kitchen side turns out japchae, kimbap, and a fridge of banchan. Korean...

Reno getting its first Fluffy Fluffy Japanese cafe
Fans of Japanese-style souffle pancakes are about to get an extra bounce in their step as Reno is set to get its first Fluffy Fluffy franchise. An application was filed Wednesday for a tenant improvement “per Fluffy Fluffy cafe standards” in the former Starbucks at 6637 S. Virginia St., in the Commons shopping center south of Neil Road. Tenants include Total Wine, Petsmart and Wrap It Up Mediterranean food. Founded in 2018 in Canada, Fluffy Fluffy has expanded globally since it started franchising in 2020. It has more than 30 locations in North America and some 70 in the United Kingdom, China, France and elsewhere. Fluffy Fluffy is known for a Japanese-style menu inspired by Tokyo cafes and convenience stores or “konbini.” At the top of its offerings are “fuwa fuwa.” The fluffy souffle pancakes are Japan’s taller, airier take on traditional breakfast pancakes. Flavors include creme brulee, matcha tiramisu, nutella banana, and the classic pancake topped with fresh fruit and cream. Also on the menu are Basque-inspired cheesecakes in original, matcha, Earl Gray and mango. Other baked items include roll cakes and macarons. Some Fluffy Fluffy locations also serve “karaage,” or Japanese-style fried chicken, and “croffles.” The cross between

Rodent enters Sacramento restaurant during health inspection. What else was found?
Sacramento County Health Inspectors gave a red placard to a soul food restaurant after finding about rodent droppings throughout the facility in addition to the live rodent. What do these inspections mean? While a yellow placard signals two or more major violations, these are typically corrected or mitigated during the inspection, according to the Sacramento County Retail Food Inspection Guide . A red placard, however, signals “imminent danger to public health and safety” and suspends an establishment’s health permit until violations are corrected. This could include, but is not limited to, major vermin contamination . In contrast, a green placard means a restaurant passed inspection. The county performs about 14,000 inspections annually and about 97% of establishments pass, spokesman Ken Casparis previously told The Sacramento Bee. Approximately 1% of inspections result in a closure, he said. These were the results of Sacramento County food facility inspections for Thursday, Oct. 29, through Wednesday, Nov. 4. If an inspection listed below needs clarification, business owners can email The Sacramento Bee at servicejournalists@sacbee.com .
