The Pinal County Attorney’s Office was off and running on the first day of Country Thunder on Thursday by educating festival attendees about the dangers of drinking and driving.

By early on the first day of the festival, the department had already administered more than 100 educational breathalyzers as it promoted its sober-driving message, according to a post on the PCAO Facebook page.

“It's Day One of Country Thunder and as you can see we've got a tent set up and we're all about DUI awareness over the next couple of days promoting sober driving and administering breathalyzer tests just for educational purposes, because as we know, a lot of people do not understand just how much alcohol affects them,” said  Mike Pelton, public information officer for PCAO, in a reel posted on the department’s Facebook site. “If you're out here over the next couple of days stop by and say hi. It's going to be hot, stay hydrated, stay safe (and) most importantly have fun.”

Country Thunder 2024 runs through April 14 at Canyon Moon Ranch, 20585 E. Water Way, Florence. This means thousands of country music fans will be descending onto the Florence area.
