FITCHBURG, Wis. -- Fitchburg police are investigating after they said a woman was stabbed early Friday morning in the parking lot of a bar.

Officers were called to Monkeyshines Bar and Grill, located at 6209 McKee Road, at around 1:47 a.m. for a report of a stabbing. A 39-year-old woman was found in the parking lot with what police called a significant but non-life-threatening wound. She was taken to a local hospital.

Police said another woman was identified as a suspect. She was stopped before she could leave the scene in an SUV. The weapon believed to have been used in the incident was allegedly found in her vehicle.

A preliminary investigation allegedly found that she had armed herself with an edged weapon after an altercation that began in the parking lot of the bar and stabbed the 39-year-old woman.

The suspect was taken to the Dane County Jail and faces charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, substantial battery and disorderly conduct while armed.

News 3 Now is not naming the suspect at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court. Click here to learn more about the policy .
