5 Best Restaurants in Clovis, California You Need to Try Before Everyone Else Finds Them
Clovis, California — a city where the Sierra foothills roll gentle and golden, where the air is sweet with the scent of orange blossoms and the laughter of families echoes from shaded porches. Here, the streets are stitched with memory and migration, from old-town brick facades to the new neighborhoods where dreamers plant roots. Clovis is a patchwork — of ranchers and teachers, of Hmong and Hispanic families, of students, artists, and old-timers who remember when the rodeo was the biggest show in town.

Monty, Kim, Warren and more: Fresno's TV news goodbyes pile up across every newsroom
It’s been a hectic few months for those following the Central Valley’s TV news scene, with a wave of retirements, departures, new hires and reassignments that hit all Fresno’s TV newsrooms in a way that is uncommon, if not unprecedented. Here’s a look at where things stand. Monty Torres retires with good news on his health Longtime KMPH evening anchor Monty Torres made his retirement official in June , telling viewers in a nearly three-minute segment that he would not be returning to the Fox 26 news desk after more than 20 years with the station. The news came with a silver lining. Torres, who took medical leave last October after a lung cancer diagnosis, said a biopsy of trace fluid from his lung showed “no malignant cells present” and that his symptoms had “nearly all disappeared.” Since then, Torres has become part of the Still Here Network, posting short-form new content to social media and Youtube under the banner, News Now. The station pulled his replacement, Vanessa Villafuerte, from CBS47. She joins Madison Macay as co-anchor for the 10 p.m. newscast. “We kind of kept it a little bit of a secret for a while,” Villafuerte said in her

5 ways to enjoy Fresno's Taco Truck Throwdown 15 at Chukchansi Park this weekend
Expect downtown Fresno to be crowded this Saturday night as Taco Truck Throwdown 15 , a celebration of Fresno’s food scene, returns to Chukchansi Park. Here are five ways to enjoy the event: With an open mind This year, 22 competitors are going head-to-head to compete for two prizes: the Judge’s Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award. Between 12,000 and 15,000 people attend the Taco Truck Throwdown every year. Mike Osegueda, the founder of Street Eats and organizer of the Taco Truck Throwdown, said that a lot of previous years’ winners are now judging the competition, which means there’s room for some new blood to claim the crown. “Odds are, we’re going to have some new champions,” Osegueda said. “The field seems wide open.” The food trucks owners each choose what they think is the best taco to represent their food, which means that all sorts of tacos will be available Saturday. “Some people will get a little more adventurous sometimes,” Osegueda said. “It is up to the truck to showcase what it is that they do well. You give us what you think your best thing is.” The full list of competitors is here. With a michelada Tacos

Empty for years, a north Fresno grocery gets a new renter. Who is it? Why the delay?
After seven years of sitting empty, the former Lassens Natural Foods & Vitamins and Bentley’s Fresh Market in North Fresno finally has a new renter. But it’s not another grocery store — and there’s a reason for that. Mulligan’s Sports Bar & Indoor Golf is taking over the spot at the RiverView Shopping Center at Friant and Fort Washington Roads. It’s a bar and restaurant with golf simulators that has an existing location on Visalia’s Main Street. It’s expected to open in January or February. It’s planned to have eight golf simulators where customers can swing a club in front of large screens showing all kinds of golf courses. Also planned is a 40-person wrap-around bar with 16 taps. It will serve cocktails and specialize in whiskey. Though it will have a sports bar-style menu , you can order full dinners, including pizza, smashburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, and perhaps steak, said Shane Moss, the managing owner, who is opening the location with business partner Scott Wright. “You don’t have to golf to even come in,” he said, adding that some people try their hand at a game for the first time, while others just come to eat or drink. Is Starving Artists Bistro closed? What we know about the Fresno venue/restaurant
Starving Artists Bistro in north Fresno has been dark for a month. What’s happening with the popular restaurant, bar and live music venue at the RiverView Shopping Center at Friant and Fort Washington roads? The place that was just celebrating its reopening in January ? “They went out of business,” said Jimmy Zahriya, who owns the shopping center. He declined to speak further. Starving Artists owners could not be reached for comment about why. The business’s previous owner, who still played music at the site, also said he didn’t have any information to share. About a month ago, Starving Artists Bistro’s Instagram page posted that it was closing temporarily “due to operational challenges, business restructuring, and staffing limitations.” But temporary appears to have morphed into permanent. The business’s phone line has been disconnected. No one has posted on its Facebook account since Sept. 3. Starving Artists was the recipient of three temporary, four-month liquor licenses, the latest scheduled to expire in January, according to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Its 12-month regular and event liquor licenses are still listed as pending on the site. What was Starving Artists Bistro? The north Fresno business was unique. With guitars as
