Empty for years, a north Fresno grocery gets a new renter. Who is it? Why the delay?
After seven years of sitting empty, the former Lassens Natural Foods & Vitamins and Bentley’s Fresh Market in North Fresno finally has a new renter. But it’s not another grocery store — and there’s a reason for that. Mulligan’s Sports Bar & Indoor Golf is taking over the spot at the RiverView Shopping Center at Friant and Fort Washington Roads. It’s a bar and restaurant with golf simulators that has an existing location on Visalia’s Main Street. It’s expected to open in January or February. It’s planned to have eight golf simulators where customers can swing a club in front of large screens showing all kinds of golf courses. Also planned is a 40-person wrap-around bar with 16 taps. It will serve cocktails and specialize in whiskey. Though it will have a sports bar-style menu , you can order full dinners, including pizza, smashburgers, pulled pork sandwiches, and perhaps steak, said Shane Moss, the managing owner, who is opening the location with business partner Scott Wright. “You don’t have to golf to even come in,” he said, adding that some people try their hand at a game for the first time, while others just come to eat or drink. Coffee shop at Fresno's Campus Pointe adds something different. See the new store
Inside Look is a Fresno Bee series where we take readers behind the scenes at restaurants, new businesses, local landmarks and news stories. Running a coffee shop wasn’t enough. So Sumer Rasheed, co-owner of Collect Coffee Bar , decided to open a store next to her coffee shop at Campus Pointe at Fresno State selling some of her favorite things. And it’s not just a store. It’s an experience. Customers can go olive oil tasting. They can make their own perfumes and candles. Children can blow off steam in a kids play area while their parents shop or sip a latte. And more interactive features are coming soon. The store, called Zaytoona , will celebrate its grand opening from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m Saturday. If Zaytoona sounds familiar, it’s because Rasheed and her husband, Jamal Taha, used to run a store of the same name at River Park. It closed several years ago. Now it’s reopen — with some changes — and connected to neighboring business, Collect Coffee Bar, via an open archway. The play area for children with toys and a miniature kitchen is open to customers of either business. Rasheed and her husband bought Collect Coffee several

The Fresno Shop Quietly Doing TV-Quality Ad Videos for Small-Business Prices
Fresno isn't exactly known as a media production hub. That's part of what makes Chad Stambaugh's pitch interesting. Stambaugh runs CS Designs, a digital marketing agency operating out of the Central Valley that has quietly expanded from bread-and-butter website work into a service most small businesses assumed was out of their budget: commercial-grade video ads built for both television and internet distribution.
