Work starts on Old Abe Memorial Park
PARK FALLS — After years of work the ground was finally broken to start work on Old Abe Memorial Park in Park Falls. The park promises to be a town square, an event venue and a top of the line children’s playground. City officials and community took part in a ceremonial groundbreaking on May 30, before the real construction started on June 3 at the park located between Division Street and State Highway 182/First Street South, and Third Avenue South just north of Forward Bank....

Tensions high in Lac du Flambeau as road dispute between tribe, town drags on
In January 2023, members of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa put up barricades on four roads on the reservation. To the residents who found themselves cut off from their homes, the move seemed to come out of the blue. In fact, it was the result of a decade-long dispute between the tribe, the town of Lac du Flambeau and title companies over expired easements on town roads that were never renewed.
County K closure
County Road K in the town of Prentice will be closed for repairs of the railroad crossing, approximately 100 feet north of the road, starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, according to a press release from the Price County Highway Department. The work is expected to be completed on Wednesday and there will be no signed detour. Motorists are urged to allow extra time for the commute.
Prentice golfers place 8th at state
The Prentice High School boys golf team finished eighth at the 2024 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association — Division 3 state championship meet at the Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler on June 4. “I was really pleased with how the team competed, even through the difficulty of a two hour weather delay on Monday,” said Prentice golf coach Nikki Heikkinen. “The experience that the team gained will be huge for their development and confidence going into next year.” ...

Phillips High School sent nine student athletes to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 State Track and Field Championships on May 31 and June 1 at Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex in La Crosse. Chequamegon High School senior Autumn Michalski concluded her stellar high school running career with three medals at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 State Track and Field Championships on May 31 and June 1 at Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex in La Crosse. MINOCQUA — 10u stallions head to Minocqua for their first tourney. We drew a tough Rhinelander team for the first match and they showed up ready to play. Cash Theisen, Ridge Hessedal and Cameron Williams pitched for Antigo, but we just didn’t have our bats going to give the boys a little help. Park Falls Country Club will host the first annual “Christmas in July” two-person best ball scramble to benefit Santa’s Elves Foundation. The Phillips Lanes Team 1 women’s bowling team won first place in the Team event at the Wisconsin State Women’s Championship Tournament of the United States Bowling Congress.
