Gina Grubb and Joe Gaddis win Oak Ridge elections
A former police officer and retired teacher is the newest member of the Anderson County Commission. And Oak Ridge High School's longtime football coach , who now works as athletic director, will be the newest member of Oak Ridge City Council. Democrat Gina Grubb beat Republican Don Layton on Nov. 3 in the race for a District 8 seat on the County Commission. She received 2,190 votes, or 58% of the vote, compared with 1,583 votes, or 42%, for Layton, a retired Anderson County judge. That makes Grubb the unofficial winner. The Anderson County Election Commission will certify the results at a later date. Speaking after her win, Grubb credited the "tremendous outpouring of support (and) generosity" of people inside and outside District 8, which includes Oak Ridge residents who vote in the Emory Valley, Woodland and Hendrix Creek precincts. "It has been a fun adventure so far," Grubb told The Oak Ridger, but she said she is now ready to get to work on the commission. In the Oak Ridge City Council race, the unofficial winners are Joe Gaddis, L.C. "Charlie" Hensley, Ellen Smith and Warren Gooch.
