Lake Forest High School senior wins essay contest

FELTON – Finance students at Lake Forest High School are using their knowledge to tell others about what they learn.

Peyton Moore is a senior at the school who took the Financial Services course during her first semester of the school year. She and the rest of the class played the Stock Market Game, created by the University of Delaware Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship.

The game is a simulation that allows players to make decisions on stocks, mutual funds bonds and more over a five-year period.

The students who participate in the game can also enter in the InvestWrite essay contest that is sponsored by Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, which is also a sponsor for the Stock Market Game.

Each student in the class wrote an essay for the contest. Peyton was selected as the Delaware High School Division winner for fall 2023.

She will be attend the virtual award ceremony Wednesday to be recognized for her accomplishments. The contest gave her the opportunity to reflect on the game and what she will use in the future.

“The essay was about our class playing the Stock Market Game and we learned what works and what doesn’t work to invest in,” said Peyton. “I think it definitely taught me the importance of having a diverse profile in the stock market and to invest in things that you are interested in rather than what everyone else is investing in.”

After graduation, Peyton will attend Nova Southeastern University in Florida to major in biology with a minor in public health.
