FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Fayetteville is one step closer to seeing a Sunday alcohol sales issue on the November ballot.

Local group “Keep Our Dollars In Fayetteville” turned in 7,000 signatures today, more than the required amount of 4,500.

“Keep Our Dollars In Fayetteville” says it was expecting the signature drive to take up to six weeks to get the required amount, however, it only took two weeks.

Keaton Smith, secretary for “Keep Our Dollars In Fayetteville” says this shows the overall opinion surrounding Sunday alcohol sales.

“I think there’s a real understanding that we are losing real tax dollars to other communities when folks have to travel out of town to make those purchases,” Smith said.

Cities in Washington County that have passed Sunday alcohol sales are Springdale, Tontitown and Greenland .

If passed, Fayetteville would be the fourth city in the county to do so.
