East Multnomah County’s “small but mighty” farmers market returns this weekend, pairing fresh produce and handcrafted goods with delicious food carts.

The Fairview Sunday Market will have its opening day 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Fairview Fork Plaza, 223rd and Halsey. For the opening day there will be a special Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Fork, with live music and fun activities for kids and adults.

Throughout the season, which runs every weekend through the second Sunday in September, parking can be done across the street at the Yamaha Motorcycle & Suzuki Sports Plaza, 22455 N.E. Halsey St.

Fairview’s annual farmers market is special because it embodies the spirit of its host town — small, intimate, with a variety of local vendors. And after shopping at the market, there are 16 food carts to explore at the Fairview Food Plaza, as well as beer and cider at the central pavilion.

The hours of the market were extended this season to better accommodate folks attending church in the mornings, and to draw in the late afternoon crowds returning from weekend outings.

The market also offers Double Up Food Bucks, which matches dollars spent by SNAP customers who bring their EBT card to the market.
