Mid-Shore state races favor incumbents, Question 3 passes without support of District 1

EASTERN SHORE — On Tuesday, incumbent candidate Andy Harris defeated Dan Schwartz in the Maryland District 1 House race. Harris was first elected to serve in the House of Representatives in 2010. Prior to his time in the House of Representatives, Harris served in the Maryland State Senate for 12 years. Recently, Harris proposed millions of dollars in funding for District 1 as a part of a fiscal 2027 agriculture appropriations bill. Harris drew national attention on Oct. 13, after threatening to have a student reporter removed from a news conference. The incident occurred following a candidate forum held in Cambridge with Dan Schwartz. At an invitation only watch party held at Portside restaurant in Cambridge, FOX45 Rebecca spoke with Harris who self-declared victory early onTuesday night. In the interview Harris said, “What made the campaign successful is people in the first congressional district know that I deliver for them in Washington, and they come out on Election Day and they deliver for me.” He also commented on Question 3 being passed. “If the governor really believes in democracy, he should say, well, you know what, First Congressional district doesn’t like this idea, maybe we shouldn’t gerrymander the First Congressional

Tensions rise during four hour city council meeting

CAMBRIDGE — During a four hour long city council meeting last Monday, tensions among commissioners, the mayor and citizens came to the forefront. Every seat was taken by audience members in the chambers relegating some residents to stand for the entire four hours. What drew most people out to the meeting were the public hearings on Ordinances 1280 and 1281. Ordinance 1280 outlines updated regulations for rental registration, licensing, and mandatory three year property inspections. Ordinance 1281 targets vacant residential structures and empty commercial storefronts throughout the city. Ordinance 1280:Some residents opposed mandatory interior inspections, citing tenant privacy and Fourth Amendment concerns. They argued that tenants can report problems to landlords or the city, seek help through the courts, and that the city should prioritize blighted properties over routine inspections. “The notion that government now wants to violate someone’s Fourth Amendment right, I don’t mean to make you indolent tyrants, but we don’t want more government in our lives,” Shanara Ramsey said. Others supported inspections as a way to address poor housing conditions, protect tenants who fear retaliation or eviction for reporting problems, and establish consistent standards for livable housing. U.S. 113 crossover closures will affect two Berlin intersections

Two U.S. 113 intersection crossovers in Berlin will close overnight three times in November while the town performs electrical transformer work. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close the crossovers at MD 376, also known as Bay Street/Assateague Road, and Germantown Road/South Main Street beginning Nov. 6, according to a community announcement. Crews are scheduled to work from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. during three consecutive overnight periods beginning Nov. 6, with all work expected to be complete by 6 a.m. Nov. 21. The traffic signals at the two intersections will be turned off while the transformer maintenance is underway. What drivers can expect on U.S. 113 The State Highway Administration plans to place signs along both the northbound and southbound sides of U.S. 113 to alert motorists to the closures. Barrels will block the intersection crossovers during the work. Northbound and southbound traffic traveling along U.S. 113 will not be affected by the utility work. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to remain alert, avoid distractions and obey posted speed limits while traveling through the work zone. Honga River dredging begins in Dorchester County

DORCHESTER COUNTY - Congressman Andy Harris announced today that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District has begun dredging the Honga River in Dorchester County. According to officials with Harris' office, the project will remove approximately 342,000 cubic yards of sediment. Dredging is expected to continue through March of 2027.
