Sept. 11 Delaware HS football roundup: Newark Charter blanks Odessa
ODESSA — Newark Charter forced two turnovers, two turnovers on downs and two punts in the second half of a stellar defensive performance that keyed the school's first win over a Class 2A opponent. The 13-0 victory at Odessa was another milestone for the second-year program, and highlighted the Sept. 11 games in Delaware high school football. "We've been talking about, all week, trying to find something to hang our hat on," Newark Charter coach Jody Russell said. "Very encouraging tonight to watch these guys come out and how they swarmed defensively. I think we may have found something that we can hang our hat on." The Patriots (2-0) lost in the Class 1A title game last year in their first season of varsity football. Their only losses came to 1A champion Seaford and Odessa (20-16 in Week 1). "All of us got older," junior edge defender and tight end Alexander Burrows said. "We miss a few O-line guys, but all of our skills and most of our defense got a year older." Negative plays consistently put Odessa (1-1) behind the chains in the second half as the Ducks tried to come back from an early deficit. Of Odessa's 10

Crews have been working throughout Thursday night into Friday to solve the ongoing problem at the 300 block of North Main Street. “North Main Street water service remains unavailable,” the town wrote in a post early Friday morning, asking residents to avoid the area. “Crews have already replaced more than 35 feet of deteriorated terracotta pipe,” the town said in a statement. “As repairs progressed, additional sections of the existing pipe continued to fail, requiring approximately 61 additional feet of pipe to be replaced in order to make a secure connection to the existing water main.” School closures were announced by Caroline County Public Schools on Facebook, citing the water main break as the reason. The closure of the Greensboro Elementary School includes the Judy Center Early Learning Hub. “The town recognizes the significant inconvenience this creates for residents, businesses, and the school community,” the town’s statement read. “Our priority is to complete the repair safely and properly and restore water service as quickly as possible.” The town said it will continue to provide updates as the repair progresses
