    City council meets earlier

The Estacada City Council voted recently to start their regular twice-monthly meetings at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than in the past.

The council discussed the change in April and made it official at the May 13 meeting, which started at 6 p.m.

The Estacada City Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at City Hall, 475 S.E. Main St. and via Zoom.

    Faraday will open Oct. 1

The popular recreation area, Faraday Lake, which has been closed for construction of the new Faraday Powerhouse, will reopen Oct. 1, senior vice president Larry Bekkedahl said.

Faraday Lake has been closed to all recreation, including fishing, due to construction at the hydropower plant and related repairs and maintenance in the nearby area. On Oct. 1 fishing access and picnic areas will reopen.

“I wish it was a little bit sooner,” Bekkedahl said.

The popular biking, running and walking route, Faraday Road, on the northeast side of the Clackamas River has been open for several years.

    City committee members appointed

The Estacada City Council appointed Evelyn Rodela to the Library Board. In her application Rodela said she is a bilingual Latina that takes her children, “two wonderful avid readers,” to the library often.

Christy Jackson was appointed to the Parks & Recreation Commission starting immediately and Jordan Lenchitski-Austria and Ryan Huff starting June 13.

Jackson said she has experience in the RFPs (request for proposal) and has served on the board of Harper’s Playground, a local non-profit that builds inclusive playgrounds.

Lenchitsky-Austria is a fourth grade teacher and wants to make the community better.

Huff said in his application “Between fishing, mountain biking and rock climbing I am highly invested in the health of the programs supporting our interactions with nature.”

Jon Dolezal, Scott Stahl and Shane Harris were appointed to the city’s Budget Committee, by the city council at its May 13 meeting.

Dolezal sits on the city’s Traffic & Public Safety Committee. Stall is on Estacada’s Planning Commission and has other government experience. Harris has an extensive military and business background.

    Library earns grant

The Estacada Public Library was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Michele Kinnamon, director of the Estacada Library said “library staff are always on the lookout for grants to supplement our library budget.”

Oregon agencies received more than $20,000 in literacy grants, part of the retailer’s foundation’s more than $10.6 million given to support adult, family and summer literacy programs in the 48 states in which Dollar General operates.

    Wastewater plant contractor selected.

Estacada City Council unanimously voted to sign a contract with Slayden Constructors Inc. to be the main contractor for the new wastewater treatment plant.

Slayden will start work immediately and expects to break ground on the plant in October.

Slayden will be a Contract Manager/General Contractor or CM/GC. This is a way to deliver projects which brings in the contractor earlier in the process, while the engineering is still being completed.

This time-saving method allows the contractor and the engineer to work collaboratively to complete the design work ensuring that value engineering is done while still in the design phase.

This arrangement also allows the contractor to order “long lead” parts while still in the design phase. Some components complex projects such as this can take over a year to be delivered.

Salem-based Slayden focuses on water, wastewater and fish passage projects and has over 40 years of experience. The firm has worked on 145 wastewater treatment plants.
