See Beyond Festival
The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) will host the third annual See Beyond Festival on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its campus on 3501 Taylor Ave. in Parkville-Overlea. This free, community event encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to “see beyond” the perception of what it is like to live with low vision and discover how adaptable we all are.
All visitors to The See Beyond Festival will have the unique opportunity to participate, without using their sight, in a host of blind sports including beep baseball, blind soccer, blind lacrosse, and sprint track; blind food tastings; and other tactile activities while wearing light-blocking eyeshades. The 2024 See Beyond Festival will also feature:
A Kid Zone offering free balloon animals, face painting, sensory and braille crafts, and interactive activities. Kids are also invited to enjoy MSB’s fully-accessible playground.A variety of food and drinks from local vendors.A Maker’s Market and Vendor Fair, featuring more than 20 local crafters and vendors. MSB students will sell their own creations, including dog biscuits, plants, and more handmade gifts.Live music from local performers. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.Guide dog demonstrations

GLMMAM Open Cockpit Day
Join the Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum at Martin State Airport on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the first Open Cockpit Day event of the year. The Museum welcomes aboard visitors on its shuttle buses to transport them to the outdoor airplanes where imaginations take flight, among various other activities for all age groups. The last shuttle bus to the airplanes departs at 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Museum exhibit galleries in Hangar 5 remain open until 3 p.m. Admission to this special event is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Rain date is Saturday, May 4. BCRP Listening Session
The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks invites community members to attend one of four open house/listening sessions designed to learn about the Department’s programs, services & spaces; meet the team; reserve a field or pavilion on site (or learn how to online); learn about and apply for job opportunities; ask questions; provide input on what’s important to you and your community. For residents of the Essex, Middle River and White Marsh areas, the nearest listening session will be on May 1 at Eastern Regional Park gymnasium, located at 11723 Eastern Ave. in Middle River. Other listening sessions will be in Cockeysville (May 6), Catonsville (May 2) and Dundalk (May 7). Be on the lookout for more information coming soon. BCPS Film Expo
Baltimore County Public Schools’ annual Film Expo will be held on May 16 from 7-9 p.m. at Senator Theatre at 5904 York Road in Baltimore. All middle school and high school students are welcome to enter. Films selected as finalists will be shown during the expo. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to this free annual Film Expo event. Great Saturday fun awaits. The Back River Restoration Committee will join the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce to host the
“Family Fest @ 43,” an event featuring fresh family fun and entertainment. Enjoy a celebration of more than 50 exhibitors, a kids zone including Ms. Dee the Clown, Live Butterfly Exhibit, Martial Arts & Dance Shows. A beer and wine garden will be included along with plenty of convenient free parking. This free, family-friendly event will be held on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Event will be held rain or shine. 13th Annual BRRC Golf Tournament
The Back River Restoration Committee is preparing for its yearly golf tournament fundraiser, scheduled for June 28 at Rocky Point Golf Course in Essex. Registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. and shotgun will begin at 8 a.m. Individuals may register for $125 and four-person teams may register for $500. There will be prizes, an award ceremony, a luncheon and more activities as BRRC prepares for one of its most notable events of the year. Additional details are available at www.savebackriver.org.
