Lutheran education association honors Erie's Rev. Jay Mitchell

Rev. Jay Mitchell, pastor of Luther Memorial Church and Academy in Erie, has been named distinguished rostered leader of the year by the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association.

An Erie native, Mitchell has served at Luther Memorial since March of 2023.

Mitchell, who was ordained in 2015, graduated from Temple University and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in 2014. Previously, he served for eight years at Christ Ascension Lutheran Church in Philadelphia.

"We are thrilled to award Rev. Jay Mitchell with this well-deserved recognition," Cory Newman, executive director of ELEA, said in a statement. "His pastoral leadership has been instrumental in shaping the lives of staff, children, and families of the Church and Academy community."
