Damaging Wind Line and Brief Tornadoes Threaten Midland, Abilene and San Angelo This Evening as Supercells With Large Hail Merge and Race Toward Wichita Falls
MIDLAND, TEXAS — West Texas is squarely in the crosshairs for severe weather on Wednesday, September 30. An updated outlook places a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) over Midland, Abilene, San Angelo and Wichita Falls, where storms are expected to start as isolated supercells capable of large hail late this afternoon before merging into an organized line that pushes east into the evening. As that line moves, increasing low-level wind shear will raise the risk for damaging wind gusts and localized, brief tornadoes. Farther north, a more conditional tornado threat lingers over Kansas and southern Nebraska.
