ENGLEWOOD — Creator of Myakka River State Park’s 100’ Canopy Walkway, Meg Lowman will speak for the trees during the 36th annual Monday Lecture Series next month at Manasota Beach Club.

Nationally known as "Canopy Meg," Lowman traveled the world to observe, study and advocate for arbor ecology for more than 40 years.

After completing her Ph.D in Australia, she returned to Sarasota and became Selby Garden's CEO in 1991 to help it become one of the Top 10 botanical gardens in the country.

In recent years, Lowman's work has focused on nature research and sustainability at various universities and colleges across the country.

Her exploration of dendrology as an educator, ecologist and author have fostered nine books and more than 150 journal articles.

After returning to the Sunshine State again in 2019, Lowman launched her latest project called Mission Green, a "Big Plan to Save Big Trees."

From noon to 1:30 p.m. on April 8, Lowman will share her initiatives for the endeavor, both local and international, to those attending the "lunch and learn" presentation at 7660 Manasota Key Road, Englewood.

The cost of a seat is $35, plus taxes and gratuity for the talk and buffet-style lunch offered.

Reservations are required due to limited seating.
