Ambulance service owner convicted of tax crimes
The owner of an ambulance service that operates in Mingo County has been convicted in federal court of tax crimes. According to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Will Thompson, after four days of trial on May 2, a jury in Beckley convicted Christopher Jason Smyth, 48, of Pineville, for for failing to pay the taxes withheld from employees’ wages at an ambulance service he operated – Stat EMS — and for obstructing the IRS.

Miners close out spring, to hit the gridiron again in June
NEWTOWN – The Mingo Central High School football team closed out a successful spring with last week's inaugural Blue-White scrimmage at Buck Harless Stadium,. “The scrimmage went better than what we all thought it would go,” Mingo Central Coach David Jones said. “It was a first-time doing something like that. We didn’t have all of our players. Some are playing other sports but it went really well. As coaches, we were very pleased. Of course we’re having a quarterback battle right now and both did fairly OK. They have a lot to work on and that’s the main position that we are focusing on.”
