Man hospitalized, Southport man jailed on assault charge after Elmira Byrne Dairy incident
A Town of Southport man faces an assault charge after an early morning incident Sunday in the City of Elmira that sent another man to the hospital. Around 1:10 a.m. Sunday, police officers responded to Byrne Dairy, 528 Pennsylvania Ave., for a report of a disturbance, according to the Elmira Police Department.
NYSEG system upgrades aim to reduce power outages for Chemung County residents
Rural areas can sometimes be prone to electric outages, but New York State & Electric and Gas is taking steps to reduce the frequency in parts of Chemung County. NYSEG is launching a multi-pronged project designed to make delivery of electricity more reliable for customers in the towns of Erin and Van Etten.

Foggy Start, Mainly Dry
Fair skies are expected on Thursday as low pressure exits off the East Coast. A passing shower cannot be ruled out during the day, otherwise it should be a dry day. Highs will be in the mid to upper-70s. Partly cloudy skies and dry conditions continue overnight as lows fall into the lower-50s. Clouds will be increasing into Friday as a system approaches from the west. We will see showers by Friday afternoon and evening. Highs will be in the mid-70s. A few showers cannot be ruled out Saturday, but we are looking at partly sunny skies and temperatures sitting seasonable in the lower-70s. We rise back to the mid-70s on Sunday with fair skies continuing. Early next week we will start off in the lower-80s with dry weather on Monday and Tuesday under partly sunny skies. Clouds will be increasing on Wednesday with the chance for showers. Temperatures will be in the upper-70s.
