Elk River City Council Ward 3 Council Member Mike Beyer, a 17-year resident of Elk River, has announced he will seek a second term in office.

“I have learned so much over the last four years and believe Elk River is a very special place,” Beyer said. “In addition, I have been amazed at how our citizens came together to formalize the comprehensive plan which will aid Elk River in their future planning.”

Since arriving on the council, Beyer has been the liaison to Elk River’s planning commission and park and recreation commission. He has also served as the vice president of the Elk River Economic Development Authority.

The first-term council member said he has worked to control expenses while inflation skyrocketed and insurance premiums have gone out of control. He said he feels his work is not completed, and noted he is excited for the opportunities and improved traffic flow that will come from a completed Highway 169 Redefine project scheduled to be done in November.

Beyer sought his first term as Ward 3 council member after former Council Member Nate Ovall announced his decision not to seek reelection. He saw the position as as a chance to give back and represent the people of Elk River.

Beyer is the director of operations of a Brooklyn Center business called Supply Technologies, a multi-million-dollar operation with its headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio.

Beyer served in the United States Navy from 1983-1992. He was involved in the citizen-led effort to bring back fireworks and an Independence Day program to Elk River, and he has been involved in fundraising for Community Aid Elk River, the local food shelf. He has been a member of the Elk River American Legion Post 112 and is a past commander of the 400-plus member group.

He is also a member of the Elk River-Rogers VFW Post 1152.

Beyer and his wife, Stacy, have two children, Miranda and Cade. Prior to moving to Elk River the family lived for a short time in Mason City, Iowa, where he was tasked with starting a local office for the company where he worked.

Shortly after that, he was promoted and had the opportunity to move back to Minnesota where he grew up. He and Stacy chose to make their home in Elk River and raise their children here.
