McGhee Tyson Airport transitioning to new parking system
Travelers using the parking garage at McGhee Tyson Airport will have to adjust to scanning rather than jamming their ticket in the reader when they leave. The airport’s change in parking systems has been rolling out to the lots over the last few months, but this week the change for the garage began on Monday with both systems in operation at the exit. “By Wednesday, we’ll have all of the new equipment lanes open and the old equipment, so we’ll have all the lanes open,” Aaron Flake, director of parking and ground transportation, said. “We’ll be phasing the customers to those two lanes running the old system until they all phase out. We’ll have three very fast exit Lanes, and then we’ll start closing those older lanes and adding that new equipment into them.” Flake answered questions regarding the transition to the new parking access and revenue control system Oct. 21 during the monthly meeting of the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners. Lot A is open on the new system. Lot B was closed as crews rework the islands for the new system. Staff anticipates that the transition for the garage and lots will be completed by Nov.
