ELGIN — While the budget can be balanced for the upcoming fiscal year, the city of Elgin needs to plan for some major changes in the future. The city council and budget committee met on Monday, May 6, to discuss the proposed total 2024-25 budget of $6.7 million. The proposed budget requires scattered cuts and fee increases to balance city funds, according to City Administrator Alex McHaddad. However, it is unlikely there will be room in future budgets for this approach to continue to work.

Porta potty standoff leads to arrest in La Grande grocery store parking lot
LA GRANDE – On Wednesday, May 1, the La Grande Police Department responded to a reported case of a woman running around the parking lot of 2111 Adams Avenue with minimal clothing and generally acting strange. Responding officers quickly identified the woman as Bree Jasmine Delepierre (DOB 05/01/1993) who, according to the LGPD, “was exhibiting bizarre and erratic behavior. Her behaviors were consistent with her being under the influence of meth.”
