ELECTRA ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Celebrating healthcare professionals at the almost 5,000 hospitals and health systems throughout the country, National Hospital Week is a great time to say “Thank you” to those healthcare heroes.

While the American Hospital Association celebrated the national holiday from May 12 through May 18, 2024, we at KFDX and KJTL have dedicated the week of May 13 through May 17 to honor local care.

And, a great place to start is none other than Electra Memorial Hospital , known not only for its recent renovations and brand-new physical therapy gym but also for its staff’s high attention to detail and personalized treatment for patients.

“We expect their care to be top-notch,” Hospitalist and Nurse Practitioner Jessi Berrett of Electra Memorial said. “We want to be the best that we can be… And we strive very hard to work on that. And, you know, we take feedback seriously and honestly, and we hope to improve that every day.”

It’s something Berrett has a natural knack for; serving Electra for over seven years, the nurse practitioner is closely connected to each of her patients, whether they’re on the mend and in the newly renovated gym or are rushed into the 24-hour, Level IV Trauma emergency room.

“The biggest thing for me is I have time to spend with the patients, you know, instead of just rounding on 40 different patients a day, which I’ve done in the past as a hospitalist,” Berrett said. “Here, I don’t have that number to meet, and I spend more time with them or I see them multiple times a day, or I’ll follow them over here to rehab and make sure that rehab is going well, along with the medical side. We can just kind of put that personal feel into the whole picture.”

And, individualized treatment plus a Top 20 Critical Access Care Hospital rating is the perfect formula for life-changing care that’s never out of reach

“There [are] so many people that are low income or they have financial issues or their health issues are so bad that they just can’t drive or they don’t have the, you know, the means to get there,” Berrett said.

Even when patients are back in their own beds, anyone who receives care from Electra Memorial can rest assured, from the first visit to the last.

“If they are having issues with pharmacy or medications, we have a pharmacist that I can pull in to help with that or make things a little bit more personal,” Berrett said. “Our social worker is great. She’s pulled into almost everything I do because almost everybody needs help once they go home with something.”

And that passion for each patient is what pushes her to ensure each individual receives personalized care.

“One little patient in particular, she calls me her granddaughter, [and] I treat her like my grandmother—I don’t have any living,” Berrett said. “So, you know, it’s that thing. She’ll walk down the hallway and come to my office and say hello and tell me she fell at home and needs to get in with their primary. And, I’ll call them and they get her in. It’s just the whole… It’s a big family. People know us by name and by our face. We just have all those little things.”

Championing wellness for all, every step of the way.

Electra Memorial Hospital is located at 1207 Bailey St. The hospital offers cardiac and pulmonary rehab, infusion therapy services, radiology, respiratory care, wound care and more.

Plus, the Electra Hospital District as a whole offers primary care and more at their clinics in Electra and Iowa Park. To learn more, visit the website.
