Midland Avenue is currently listed under the current Town of Basalt Street Characteristics. Diagonal parking with a loading zone. The Midland Streetscape design is not listed in the Basalt Complete Street Design Manual. “The standards in all of the street characteristics section have been developed to achieve the goals for a multi-modal community. It is to manage supply of parking to match the characteristics of the street. These plans have been developed into context for the community’s desire to preserve and cultivate small town characters through Basalt’s mobility corridors.” Stating: “The transportation system has to be looked at as a unique and dynamic system, special to the Town of Basalt. The Town of Basalt is a pedestrian environment with the override priority of the pedestrian and pedestrian facilities, GUIDED BY THE ALIGNMENT AND CONDUCTIVITY OF THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM AS THE DOMINANT ELEMENT OF DESIGN.”

As impressionable young boys at Glenwood Springs Elementary School, we watched curiously as he paced the sideline of the old gymnasium seemingly without end, never tiring and keeping the same metronome-like cadence throughout our class period.
