In 5 numbers: How bad was the historically awful 2026 ‘water year’
Water Year 2026 is in the books and — as most water watchers know — it was historically bad. The water year is the 12-month span that runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30. It’s the stretch hydrologists use to track water trends, and, well, the 2026 water year broke so many records that the aftermath resembles what you’d see after a giant gorilla on a banger rampaged through Wax Trax, Colorado's iconic music store.

Proposal to replace lowest-bid construction policy with ‘best value’ moves forward in Aurora
AURORA | City officials are considering moving away from a lowest-bid policy for construction projects over $500,000 to allow for a broader range of considerations. Currently, the city’s policy for capital improvements of more than $500,000 is to accept bids on the project and then select the lowest-cost option, but Councilmember Curtis Gardner is leading the switch to a “best value” contracting approach.

Coors Distributing Co. Is Fighting for Its Life — and the Future of the Middle Tier
In the Mile High City, the fight is on for the future of the middle tier. A brewer threw the first punch — or at least, the first one in the public eye. In early September, Constellation Brands, the country’s third-largest macrobrewer, told its wholesaler in Denver, Coors Distributing Company (CDC), that it was terminating its arrangement within 30 days. Mark Anthony Group, which ranks fourth behind the Modelo maker in off-premise sales, followed suit less than two weeks later. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, the country’s second-largest craft brewer by Brewers Association-defined production volume, made its own move for the exit earlier this month.
