A Michigan woman is part of a class-action lawsuit against an Ohio company over last week's hazardous chemical leak that prompted evacuations and a shelter-in-place order. Erie resident Kathy Thiede is a plaintiff in the civil complaint filed Wednesday, Oct. 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit, according to records. What the suit says On Oct. 20, a ruptured chemical tank at M.C. Tank Transport Inc., 1266 Progress Avenue on Toledo's north side and near the Ohio-Michigan border, leaked glycidyl methacrylate . Officials said the chemical is a liquid industrial coating, but it can turn into vapor at a certain temperature. They also said exposure to it can cause eyes, nose, mouth, and skin to burn.
