Texas music icon Robert Earl Keen announces show at Buddy Holly Hall
A Texas music icon is headed to Lubbock. Robert Earl Keen , one of the Lone Star State's most celebrated songwriters and performers, is proving "the road goes on forever and that the party never ends," as he is set to perform Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Buddy Holly Hall. The event is called "I Will Survive ... Christmas" with support from Drayton Farley. The announcement was made noon Tuesday, with tickets scheduled to go on sale 10 a.m. Oct. 23 . Keen, 70, who started to play guitar a littler after starting at Sharpstown High School in Houston, developed his skills and learned to play classic country covers and bluegrass prior to enrolling at Texas A&M University. He graduated from A&M in 1978 and moved to Austin in order to get reps by performing in nightclubs and live-music venues in and around Central Texas and near his hometown. He paid his dues, fine tuned his craft and saw the success build. Some of that included having songs sung by legends like George Strait and The Highwaymen, while garnering the BMI Troubadour Award and having the Texas Legislative Conference name him Texan of the Year earlier in the year. Iconic Texas Tech Administration Building gets state historical marker
The original building on the Texas Tech University campus now has a well-deserved historical label. Tech and the Lubbock County Historical Commission officially designated the Administration Building – the first and oldest building on campus – with a Texas Historical Marker Celebration, making the structure a Registered Texas Historic Landmark, according to a Tech news release. Constructed between 1924 and 1925 after Texas Technological College was founded in 1923, it becomes just the second structure on campus to become a Registered Texas Historic Landmark, joining the Dairy Barn (2015). The designation is the highest honor bestowed by the State of Texas for historically and architecturally significant buildings. “For more than a century, generations of Red Raiders have passed through these doors and gathered around this building for some of the most important moments and traditions in the life of our university,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec . “The Administration Building has become a timeless and iconic symbol of Texas Tech, even as the university has grown and changed around it. This designation recognizes the important place it holds in our history.” Three other buildings on the Texas Tech campus – the Human Sciences Cottage (2026), the Judging Pavilion (1982)

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - For those who may be too young to know the kind of man Mac Davis was, Lubbock pastor and musician Jeff McCreight can help fill in the gaps. According McCreight, Mac Davis, he felt that “God had given him the gift of songwriting,” McCreight said. “He always had a guitar in reach and we would talk about life and love and the world. He would strum a few chords and out would come lyrics that would totally capture everything that we were feeling about what we were talking about.”
