After years in limbo, a beloved Edina restaurant that shuttered during the COVID-19 pandemic is officially reopening.

Convention Grill, which originally opened in 1934, has confirmed that it'll be back in business on Wednesday, May 8. The staff tells Bring Me The News they're training new employees and "working on getting some equipment up and running" ahead of next week's debut.

Nonetheless, the restaurant has been serving burgers and malts in a "limited capacity" before the official reopening, the Star Tribune reports.

The 2020 closure was not Convention Grill's only setback. In December, owner John Rimarcik died of brain cancer at the age of 84 , leaving the business to his sons to run.

Rimarcik also owned the Carlo and Runyon's restaurants, the St. Anthony Main Theater and many other local ventures.

You can find Convention Grill at 3912 Sunnyside Rd in Edina.
