14th Street now open, 9th Street now closed in traffic signal upgrade project
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The City of Hastings announced that one of the two traffic signal upgrades is open and complete. The Nebraska Department of Transportation’s contractor - IES Commercial, Inc. of Holdrege completed the upgrade work for the traffic signals at the intersection of Burlington Avenue and 14th Street on Wednesday. The intersection was upgraded with all new signal cable, a new controller and added radio antenna for interconnect.
New principal named for Hastings St. Cecilia
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Sam Dunn has been named the principal of Hastings St. Cecilia Middle and High School. His contract will begin on August 1, 2024. Hastings Catholic Schools said the search for a new principal came after the news that current principal and Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Fr. Cyrus Rowan, would assume the Chief Administrative Officer role. This follows the promotion of Fr. Tom Brouillette to Vicar General for the Diocese of Lincoln. Fr. Brouillette will move to Lincoln and assume the Vicar General role full-time in June 2024.

Hastings Landfill Restricts Lightweight Debris Amidst High Wind Advisory
The Hastings Solid Waste Landfill at 725 S. Southern Hills Drive is prohibiting light weight debris while the high wind advisory is in place. With wind speeds of more than 30 mph, the high wind advisory will begin at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29 and is anticipated to be in place the rest of the day. Heavier debris, such as wood waste, construction debris and furniture is still permitted at the Landfill during a high wind advisory.
