A look at Friday’s headlines from our news partners at The Tribune-Democrat.

(WTAJ) — The Cambria County Prison is getting a new air filtration system that’s effective at killing pathogens like COVID-19 and E. coli.

County commissioners approved an agreement with Germ Solutions USA Thursday to install the system for more than a million dollars which will be covered by a grant.

“Based off the test results they showed us and the data we went over with them, it seems really promising,” Warden Christian Smith said.

The Westmont Hilltop Recreation Commission has a new executive director.

Dirk Johnson is taking on the position coming from Ebensburg Borough where he’d served as recreation director since 2017. Johnson was officially hired at the commission’s April meeting and is set to start his duties on May 1.

The commission advertised the executive director job with a salary of $62,500 and interviewed four candidates prior to selecting Johnson.
