COPELAND — Three great horned owls were recovered at Elk Mountain Farms after having trouble staying in a rickety nest. The young owlets were placed with a foster mother owl at the Birds of Prey Northwest facility in St. Maries.The group’s mission is to educate the public about birds of prey, through on-site and virtual live raptor presentations and other expanding outreach as well as provide medical treatment to injured, sick, and orphaned wild raptors before returning them to the wild.

Local fifth grader to race at Stateline Speedway
POST FALLS — It’s ready, set and go, for Caelem Stewart, a Valley View Elementary fifth grader, will be racing Saturday night at Stateline Speedway. Walk-a-thon for new shoes to local kids
BONNERS FERRY — Eli Pine, known by many locals as the man who walks, is again organizing a personal walk-a-thon to fundraise for shoes for area youths. Eli and his wife, Anna, manage Hope House, a local non-profit which assists individuals and families facing financial difficulties afford basic necessities. At the end of the summer, Hope House puts on the annual Back to School Bash, a community party where families can get needed school supplies and school clothing before school starts.
Woodward cares about community's residents
It is known in the community that Jim Woodward understands emotional distress and has experience in helping his fellow community members. When my elderly friend, Lou Goodness, tragically lost his dog in a home accident, the frozen ground presented an obstacle to its burial. Jim, on his own accord, sent a crew member and equipment to take care of the job. Lou and I were very impressed with Jim's compassion, concern, and helping hand. I know he cares about the people in our community.
Volunteers needed for flag planting for Memorial Day
BONNERS FERRY — The American Legion is calling for volunteers to help place American flags on veterans’ graves at Grandview Cemetery in remembrance of Memorial Day. American Legion officials will be placing flags Friday, May 24 at 5 p.m. and will meet up near the pavilion at the cemetery.

SOFTBALL: Badgers end season, Timberlake nabs fifth straight district title
SPIRIT LAKE — Bonners Ferry softball ended their season on Thursday, May 9 as Timberlake swept the 3A Intermountain League District 1 title in two games. Acacia Pecor struck out 10, walked one and pitched a two-hitter, and the top-seeded Timberlake Tigers beat the second-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers 12-2 in six innings. Timberlake won its fifth straight district title, and 17th district title since 2000.
