The Council on Aging’s Washington Life Center is gearing up to host its 11th annual Blessing of the Bikes and Poker Run on May 18. The event, which will take place rain or shine, will run from 10 a.m. to about 4 p.m., starting and ending at the WLC. During the event, people can receive a blessing for their motorcycles and then participate in a poker run around St. Clair County. The cost of the event is $20 per bike and $10 per passenger, and all proceeds will benefit the WLC.

Metro Detroit man charged in fatal hit-and-run incident that killed 65-year-old man
(CBS DETROIT) - A Warren man is charged with failing to stop resulting in death after striking a 65-year-old pedestrian last weekend.Savion Jones, 35, was arraigned Thursday in 37th District Court and received a $200,000 cash/surety bond, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.Jones is also charged as a habitual second offender.Prosecutors alleged that on May 4, Jones was driving a Dodge RAM on 11 Mile Road near Hoover Road in Warren when he hit James Suveges as he walked in the crosswalk."A hit-and-run isn't merely an accident; it's a deliberate act of callousness. When a driver chooses to flee instead of rendering aid, they are compounding their guilt with cowardice, leaving behind shattered lives," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido in a statement. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for May 23.

Chesterfield Township remembers deadly tornado of 1964, 60 years later
Today marks 60 years since Chesterfield Township was turned upside down by a brief but deadly storm. The sky over Anchor Bay turned black around 5 p.m. May 8, 1964, as the tornado ripped through the southeast end of the community, leaving a path of destruction along Jefferson Avenue between 21 Mile and 23 Mile roads. In just 30 seconds, the storm claimed 13 lives, injured hundreds and left many homeless. Trees were uprooted, cars and boats overturned and houses sliced in half. The reported financial loss was more than $7 million.
