Denison Water Plant Reports Of Approximently 60,000 Gallons Of Untreated Groundwater Released Into Boyer River
Untreated groundwater discharge from the Denison Water Plant was reported to reach and contaminate part of the Boyer River today (Monday). At approximately ten this morning, water plant crews performed a routine maintenance inspection of the raw main located at Hwy 30 and C Avenue in Denison when the line overflowed. Approximately 60,000 gallons of raw untreated water traveled roughly 235 yards and into the Boyer River. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) got the report around 12:30 p.m. today (Monday) and says the Boyer River has a slight red tint, likely due to the iron content of the untreated groundwater. DNR reports no risks to the public, and no dead fish or wildlife has been observed.

Supervisors approve salary increase for elected county officials
SHELBY COUNTY — The Shelby County Board of Supervisors voted to give elected county officials a salary increase in 2025. The increase was approved following a recommendation by the Shelby County Compensation Board, represented at the February 20 meeting by Ruthann Grimsley. The board voted to increase the salary for the Sheriff by 1%; a 4% increase plus an additional $1,500 stipend for the Board of Supervisors Chairperson and a 4% increase for other Board of Supervisor officials. The County attorney, treasurer, recorder, and auditor will also receive a 4% raise, plus an additional $2,000 to help to equalize pay to that of similar-sized Iowa counties.
