Earthquake Reported Outside Of Taylorville Thursday Morning
An earthquake hit outside of Taylorville at 3:45 AM Thursday. The earthquake registered a 2.0 on the Richter scale. Earthquakes under 2.5 are generally not felt by the public but can be registered on seismic machines. The earthquake occurred about 3.3 miles east of Taylorville, 25 miles southwest of Decatur, 26 miles east southeast of Chatham, 28 miles southeast of Springfield, and 42 miles south of Lincoln. The depth was 5 km and location was 39.544N 89.233W.

Rural Ramsey Man Found Dead After Long Search
A rural Ramsey man was found dead Tuesday afternoon after multiple agencies has been in engaged in a search for several hours. Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris says that 83 year old Austin Sanders was found dead in a creek bed at the bottom of a steep embankment about 3/4 of a mile west of his home. Mr. Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Coroner Harris says it appears to be an accidental death and no foul play is suspected. Several agencies and volunteers were involved in the search for Mr. Sanders, who had last been seen by a neighbor on Saturday afternoon.

SHELBYVILLE —It was loud. So loud to where St. Joseph-Ogden senior guard Tanner Jacob said he couldn’t hear much on the court. There wasn’t an open seat in Shelbyville High School’s gym for Friday night’s Class 2A boys’ basketball sectional championship game between SJ-O and Teutopolis. And for 90 minutes, all those fans watched exactly what a championship game should feel like. In the end, Teutopolis outlasted SJ-O 61-55 in overtime to deny the Spartans a shot at the state tournament.

Altamont Finishes Season How They Wanted – With a Win and a Trophy
Thursday was a day of ups and down for the Altamont Lady Indians, but in the end the were able to end their season with a win and will return home this weekend with the IHSA 1A State Third Place trophy. The Lady Indians battled in their semifinal matchup with Illini Bluffs on Thursday morning, but after a hard fought four quarters, they seemingly ran out of gas a bit as they fell 60-48 in overtime. After a long afternoon break, Altamont had to return to CEFCU Arena in the evening and as they have so many games this season, used a strong second half to pull away enough from Peru St. Bede for a 64-56 win to claim third place and claim the first state trophy for girls basketball in program history. In the press conference after the third place win, Lady Indians Coach Craig Carr said there were a lot of tears after the semifinal loss, but the way they look at it, they are one of two 1A teams to end their season with a win.

Altamont Lady Indians Claim 3rd Place At Class 1A Girls Basketball State Tournament
On Thursday the 2024 Altamont Lady Indians won 3rd Place and made history by going further than any other basketball team in Altamont school history. This years Lady Indians squad already made history by advancing to the first final four in school history, with the win in the Farmer City Super Sectional on Monday over Cissna Park. Altamont captured third by winning 64-56 over Peru St. Bede.
